Acupuncture (often misspelled "accupuncture") is one of the modalities of Chinese medicine and is based on the ancient theories of the flow of energy (qi) through distinct pathways that course the body, similar to the way nerves and blood vessels do. According to this theory, acupuncture adjusts this flow of energy in the body, leading it to areas that are weak or deficient and draining it from areas that are blocked and/or over-abundant. By regulating the flow of energy in this way, acupuncture restores and maintains the harmonious balance of the body. Thin, sterile, disposable needles are inserted into specific points along the body's energy pathways.

Acupuncture (often misspelled "accupuncture") is the insertion of very thin, stainless steel, sterile, disposable needles into the body at specific points that have been proven to be effective in the treatment of specific health problems. These points are located along meridians of the body that were mapped by the Chinese over a period of centuries. Recently in this country, electromagnetic research has proven the existence of these points.
Health is the harmonious balance of yin and yang energy in the body. Studies on humans and animals demonstrate that acupuncture can provide many therapeutic benefits. The insertion of very fine needles into "acupoints" along the body's energetic pathways stimulates biological healing processes that balance the circulation of energy. Acupuncture works to treat pain by stimulating the release of endorphins....our own natural pain killing chemicals. Once a condition is resolved, regular sessions are encouraged for health maintenance.
Many people are afraid of needles and they naturally assume that acupuncture must be painful. Acupuncture needles typically are not much thicker than a hair, and the highest quality needles have extremely sharp tips that pass through the top layers of the skin smoothly. Most times patients do not even feel the insertion, while occasionally they may feel a slight pinch or mild discomfort. Usually, the insertion is smooth and comfortable.
Most major insurance companies including Excellus, MVP, Cigna, and Aetna offer plans covering acupuncture. Usually, a 50% co-pay is required, an average of $30 per treatment and generally 10-12 visits per year. No referral is needed.
In the event you do not have insurance coverage, our office accepts cash, check, and all major credit cards. Payment is due on the day of service.
Payments made on day of service are as follows:
This varies widely upon the condition and its severity and duration. Chronic conditions that have continued for years can take months to resolve, while a recent injury or problem may take only a single treatment to correct. In general, for most conditions, 5-10 treatments are needed. The effectiveness of acupuncture can be greatly increased with the concurrent adoption of healthier lifestyle habits.
